About Minnesota Home Energy Training (MNHET)

Bruce is the owner of Affordable Energy Solutions, Inc (AES). Bruce has provided energy-efficiency services since 1987 and since 2001 has been the owner of AES.  For the past 14 years, he has worked with community action agencies and the Energy-Related Repair (ERR) program as a HVAC Quality Control Inspector focusing on HVAC installations, Quality Install (QI) practices, airflow testing, ductwork improvements and scrutinizing Manual J calculations. Bruce believes in sharing knowledge and has taught dozens of classes and seminars at technical colleges, conferences, and workshops.   

For MNHET, Bruce instructs the Introduction to Mechanical Systems / HVAC course. 

Chad is a Senior Building Science Specialist at Slipstream with extensive field experience in energy auditing, quality control inspection, and sustainability. He has worked in support of the weatherization program for over 15 years and is BPI certified. Chad develops and delivers engaging building science technical and diagnostic trainings on a variety of topics and provides on-the-job mentoring for energy auditors and quality control inspectors.    

For MNHET, Chad instructs the Quality Control Inspector course proctors BPI Energy Auditor field certification exams.    

Chris Hughes is the Director of Sales at TEC. Chris brings nearly 20 years of experience from the HVAC industry and has a deep understanding of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Transitioning to The Energy Conservatory in the spring of 2021, he focuses on initiatives to merge building science and HVAC communities. 

Greg is a Senior Building Science Specialist at Slipstream who dedicates his career to working in support of the design and delivery of effective building science training with a focus on fundamentals, health and safety, diagnostic testing, comprehensive work scope development, and quality installation. Greg is BPI certified and a RESNET certified rater with over 20 years of experience performing energy audits and completing quality assurance site visits on existing and new construction residential buildings.    

For MNHET, Greg instructs the Energy Auditor and Crew Leader courses. 

Jake McAlpine is the Training and Technical Support Manager at The Energy Conservatory (TEC) and has worked in the building diagnostics world since 2009.  He has 12 years’ experience in the Weatherization Assistance Program, first as an energy auditor and program manager for a weatherization service provider (Sustainable Resources Center) in the Minneapolis area, then as a program supervisor with the Minnesota Department of Commerce.  At TEC he works directly with people in the field making diagnostic measurements and developing training materials.

For MNHET, Jake provides technical support and education on pressure and airflow measurements, general building diagnostics, and more. 

Kevin Myren is the CFO of the American Academy of Neurology. Prior to this position, Kevin was the CFO and Vice President of CommonBond Communities, the largest nonprofit provider of affordable housing in the upper Midwest. He has also served as CFO at Augsburg College, CFO at Madison Area Technical College, and as a certified public accountant at various firms.

For MNHET, Kevin instructs the Federal Uniform Guidance course.  

Matt is a Building Science Specialist at slipstream with hands-on experience in energy auditing, quality control inspections, and diagnostic testing. As a BPI certified individual, he brings his strong technical background and problem-solving skills to deliver technical trainings and proctor certification exams.    

For MNHET, Matt proctors the Energy Auditor courses.  

Rachel Wagner is a designer, architect and educator. At Just Housing, she leads the firm's efforts to create cost-effective standardized solutions for new and existing homes and deliver building science-informed workforce training in green building. An experienced "building energy geek," Rachel is a relentless seeker of methods that make healthy, durable, energy-efficient housing ordinary instead of extraordinary.  

For MNHET, Rachel instructs the Building Analyst – Technician and Installer Badge courses. 

Sage Berglund is a Workforce Training Manager at CEE. In her role, Sage designs curriculum and teaches building science principles. Sage started her career as a project manager at an aerospace company and served as an auditor for the Tri-CAP WAP agency before eventually beginning her journey at CEE as an energy auditor.  

For MNHET, Sage instructs the Building Analyst – Technician, Building Analyst – Professional, and Energy Auditor courses.  

Suzanne is the Director of Training and Technical Services at Slipstream. Suzanne is a nationally recognized energy professional with over 25 years of experience in the design and management of residential efficiency, training, and technical assistance programs. With her strong understanding of weatherization standards and history, she is a leader in developing curriculum and accreditations necessary for service providers to successfully implement efficiency upgrades and educate consumers.  

For MNHET, Suzanne instructs the Crew Leader course. 

Victor French is a Senior Building Science Trainer at CEE. Victor inspects homes to assess insulation levels, air tightness, and combustion appliances to identify ways that homeowners can make their homes safer and more energy efficient.

For MNHET, Victor instructs OSHA 10, OSHA 30, proctors Building Analyst – Technician, and proctors or instructs Energy Auditor courses.  

As a program manager working on the Minnesota Home Energy Training Center, Arbor runs day-to-day operations to develop, implement, and improve trainings. 

As the lead for the Minnesota Home Energy Training Center, Andrew ensures the program meets its goals, in collaboration with the Department of Commerce, to provide high-quality and easy-to-access trainings for weatherization service providers and workforce development participants. 

Stacey Johnson is a Project Manager at Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet, MN. Since 2018, she has played a key role in supporting the success of the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) by managing logistics and registration, facilitating communication, and ensuring seamless training delivery.
