Launch your career in home performance 

Weatherization careers training will prepare you for a career in energy efficiency.

Trainees will have the opportunity to earn a nationally recognized credential, Building Science Principles (BSP), and will earn a $500 stipend. Most instruction for this two-week training will be online. A laptop will be given to each participant as needed. 

After the training, participants may have the opportunity to complete an additional week of in-person training. Participants will have the opportunity to earn an OSHA 10 card and interview with employers for a paid ($24/hr), eight-week internship. Participants must live in Greater Minnesota to be eligible. Those who complete the in-person training will earn an additional $500 stipend.

Information on Training

Participants will: 

  • Learn the basics of building science and home energy 
  • Explore careers in weatherization, insulation, HVAC, and energy auditing 
  • Practice and help with creating resumes, interviewing, and career exploration 
  • Have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials (i.e. BSP, OSHA 10) 

Qualifications 

  • 18 years old or older  
  • Live in greater Minnesota (priority given to those who live in SE MN) 
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. 
  • Valid driver’s license strongly preferred 
  • 5th/6th grade math and reading level required; high school diploma or GED equivalent preferred 

Important Dates: 

  • The registration closes on November 20. 
  • The cohort begins on November 30.
